When Can You Prestige in Black Ops 3

Replayability is a massive part of Call of Duty and why it's so popular all around the world. As opposed to just having a single story mode, it has the massive online multiplayer aspect, which can easily be picked up and played whenever you fancy, making it easy to return to. On top of that, multiplayer has another facet of replayability within it: prestiging.

When you're playing online, the actions you complete and the goals you achieve all rack up XP, which goes towards your overall rank – you'll see dozens of pop-ups on your screen telling you about these after a certain amount of kills confirmed or killstreaks called in, for example.

Once you've reached the top level within your current rank, which is level 55, you've given the option to prestige. This resets you to level 1, though you're upgraded to the next rank, extra unlocks coming along the way.

So, what is the point in prestiging? What gets unlocked, and why should you bother? Here's a quick look at what you'll gain from prestiging in CoD: Black Ops 3 .

What is Unlocked by Prestiging?

Once you've maxed out your current rank and you opt to prestige, you'll be reset back to level one at the next rank. Note that weapons, lethals, tacticals, perks, wildcards, scorestreaks, and specialist weapons and abilities obtained with Unlock Tokens all become relocked, meaning that you'll have to unlock them all over again.

After prestiging, you'll have a new emblem which is emblazoned alongside your name, replacing the previous individual rank icons that you pick up along the way in your first rank. With these emblems, once you've achieved Master Prestige (more on that later), you'll be able to claim emblems from past Call of Duty games including World at War, Black Ops and Black Ops 2.

Here's a breakdown of the post-Master prestige emblem unlocks:

  • Level 100: 1st Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 200: 2nd Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 300: 3rd Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 400: 4th Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 500: 5th Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 600: 6th Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 700: 7th Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 800: 8th Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 900: 9th Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 1000: 10th Prestige – W@W, BO1, BO2
  • Level 1000: 11-15th Prestige – BO1
  • Level 1000: Prestige Master – BO2

In terms of what you can unlock in-game, you'll be able to claim more Create a Class slots for the first five times you prestige, giving you more variety and the ability to switch things up mid-match.

Similar to the emblem you receive, you'll also unlock Calling Cards each time you prestige.

The key area when it comes to unlockables in Black Ops 3 is the Permanent Unlock system. This allows you to permanently unlock an item which requires Unlock Tokens, meaning that you won't have to grind through the ranks in order to use it again, with it being accessible at level 1. Having something like the Razorback at level 1 will help you climb the ranks much more quickly.

What Is Master Prestige?

Once you've prestiged all ten times and have fully maxed out, you'll be able to hit Master Prestige. At this level, you'll claim the other unlocks that you pick up after every prestige, though instead of maxing out at level 55, you'll be able to continue all the way to level 1,000. You'll also be able to claim unlocks for every perk, weapon, attachment, and scorestreak, as well as every Specialist character.

Seeing a fully maxed out Master Prestige emblem on the other team in the pre-match lobby may be fairly intimidating, as it'll take quite a while to get there. There were even massive races back when the game first came out to see who could max out their account the quickest . That being said – you can speed up the process somewhat.

How Do I Prestige Faster?

The vast majority of users will go through the process of ranking up and prestiging by just playing the game normally, though you can prioritise certain things in order to get more XP and climb the ranks faster.

First of all, you may need to mix up the game modes that you're playing. Just like weapons, game modes also have various small challenges for you to complete which will help you to rack up XP. Venturing away from TDM can help you to pick up more XP, while also spicing up the game somewhat.

One In The Chamber is particularly good for this, considering the variety of weaponry used, and how short the matches tend to last. Capture the Flag is also good, considering the shorter respawn time and the variety in bonuses for kills, such as killing the flag runner, or racking up some kills while carrying the flag.

On that note, you get challenges for the weapons that you use as well. It's very easy to grow accustomed to a single gun that works for you, meaning that you just stick to that one. Switching up the weapons you use can help you to claim more XP, as well as adding plenty more variety to the game.

Scorestreaks are also helpful when it comes to leveling up considering the XP that you claim when calling one in. While choosing the massive scorestreaks is tempting, picking the smaller ones and calling them in more frequently would be great for ranking up faster.

If you really want to max out your account as quickly as possible, you can use our CoD recovery and Rank service .

So, is it worth prestiging? If you're after replayability and going through the unlocking stage again, then absolutely. If you're comfortable with your current setup and don't want to unlock your favourite gun again, then you can just leave it for the time being.
